Functional Medicine

Many people today suffer from some sort of pain, and some of them don’t know what to do about it. Some people may have heard of chiropractic treatment and want to try it, but for one reason or another they are apprehensive about doing so. Others may be more willing to try it, but they don’t know where to look.

Some primary care physician have chiropractic providers that they work with. Work with them for referrals to the chiropractor. Consult with your insurance before going to make sure you know what treatments are covered.

What a Chiropractor Does

Typically the chiropractor works with the spine (neck and pain). They may do treatments such as: acupuncture, massage, adjustments, decompression, nutrition and electrical stimulation. A special bed is used for the decompression process, which typically takes several sessions over a few number of weeks.  Adjustments are very good for subluxations that are causing pinched nerves. There are even chronic illnesses such as cancer and fibromyalgia that can benefit from chiropractic treatment. Other chronic conditions such as carpal tunnel and tendonitis can also benefit from chiropractic treatments.

In order to mitigate your back pain while going to the chiropractor, you should practice having a lot of back support. You should also have a pillow to cushion not only under your head but your shoulders as well. Then, put rolled-up towels under your knees and neck to stabilize the three main curves of your body. You must also get yourself a comfortable, supportive mattress.

Recovery doesn’t happen in one visit. Though you might feel better after one session, truly healing happens only with ongoing care.  Closely follow the treatment plan prescribed by the chiropractor.

There’s many sites out there where people can rate a chiropractor, so make sure you do your due diligence and visit these sites before choosing a chiropractor. Make sure that the chiropractor is the right fit for you in terms of office hours, treatments and insurance accepted.

While going to the chiropractor, you need to make sure you take care of yourself in other areas of your life like eating healthy and getting enough exercises. Without this, the treatments will not be as effective.
