Woodstock Trigger Point Injections

What Is A Trigger Point Injection? Woodstock Trigger Point Injections (TPI) may be a great option for treating pain in some patients. A trigger point injection can help soothe your muscle pain, especially in the legs, arms, neck, and lower neck. Woodstock trigger point injections can also be used to treat fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, and tension headaches.

This procedure used to treat painful areas of your muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when your muscles don’t relax. Trigger points are painful “knots” in your muscles. They form when a muscle can’t relax. Many times, such knots can be felt under the skin. Sometimes you can feel these knots when you rub your muscle.

Fortunately, injecting small amounts of steroid and anesthetic into the trigger point can help alleviate the pain. Tigger points may irritate your nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of your body.

How Is A Trigger Point Injection Done?

You sit or lie down for the TPI procedure. Dr. Kal, our top Woodstock chiropractor will press on your muscle to locate the area where you are feeling the pain. Then, our chiropractor at Advanced Health Solutions – GA Spine & Disc will insert a small needle into the area and inject a mixture of steroid and anesthetic.

With the injection, the trigger point is made inactive and the pain is alleviated. Often, a brief course of treatment will result in sustained pain relief. Woodstock trigger point injections are given in our chiropractor’s office and usually take just a few minutes.

Several sites may be injected in one visit. However, if a patient has some allergy to a certain drug, a dry-needle technique (involving no medications) can be used.

You can have several trigger points injected during one visit to our clinic since the procedure only takes a few minutes.

When Is Trigger Point Injection Used?

Trigger point injection is used to treat many muscle groups, especially those in the legs, arms, neck, and lower back. In addition, TPI can be used to treat tension headaches, and fibromyalgia. The technique is can also be used to alleviate myofascial pain syndrome (chronic pain involving tissue that surrounds muscle) that doesn’t respond to other traditional treatments. However, the effectiveness of TPI for treating myofascial pain is still under study.

What Are The Risks?

The risk of complication from a trigger point injection is very low. Complications such as infection and bleeding at the injection area are uncommon. However, you may have temporary numbness or soreness at the injection site.

What Happens After The Procedure?

After a trigger point injection, you can actively use your muscle. However, you should avoid strenuous activity for the first few days.
